An antique earthenware vase with brass overlay (vase cuivré). Height about 27.5 cm, 10.75”. Diameter at the top rim about 11 cm, 4.3”. Marked at the bottom De Bruyn Fives-Lille, France. Also Modèle Déposé and number 4688 2. The earthenware body of the vase is in a dark blue glaze, the brass overlay follows the shape. The brass has been guilt, the gilding is partly rubbed off. Nice condition, no chips or cracks.

The maker is Antoine Gustave De Bruyn, of Belgian origin, who started the Fives firm near Lille in France in 1864, where he operated a ‘faiencerie’ in the Rue de Malakoff. In 1899 De Bruyn was honoured with a medal at the World Exhibition in Paris. The firm was sold in the fifties and closed down in 1962.
